The Travelling Citizens' Chorus
Non-professional vocal training for children
The Travelling Citizens' Chorus offers children aged 8 to 15 from priority urban neighbourhoods and rural communities the opportunity to receive multidisciplinary opera training and to perform both in dedicated productions and in selected opera productions throughout the season.
The Travelling Citizens' Chorus removes many of the barriers that can limit access to opera training.
Rather than asking children to travel to the Opera several times a week — something that may exclude families who are geographically, socially or culturally distant from the institution — Opera artists travel directly to schools.
Each year, around 75 children aged 8 to 15 from seven areas of Greater Nancy and the Lunéville region (including priority neighbourhoods and rural communities) benefit from more than 300 hours of opera training in partnership with the Nancy-Metz Regional Education Authority.
They learn how to perform on stage alongside professional artists, to listen, to work together, to develop self-confidence and to discover their own talents. Every project culminates in professional performances, either in the theatre or on tour.
This long-term experience offers them another way to grow and develop alongside their formal education.
