La Rivière

The Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine is joining forces with Nancy's Maison des Femmes and the Arélia association in an artistic and socially committed project: La Rivière. Focusing on women who have suffered violence, this production transforms their ordeal into creative strength, both on stage and in real life. 

Inspired by Britten's Curlew River, this musical drama explores the metaphor of the river, drawing on writing workshops led by Mirabelle Ordinaire: a transition to a rebuilt life, where wounds heal without erasing their traces. Renaud Madore's musical direction and the amateur women's choir bring this intimate and collective odyssey to life, combining song, text and orchestra. 

For seven months, the participants – accompanied by artistic and social teams – will work on their voices, their stories and their stage presence. Their performance on the Opera House's main stage will be far more than a show: it will be an act of resilience, with music becoming both a refuge and a declaration. With delicacy and hope, La Rivière celebrates art's cathartic potential. Never denying suffering, but mastering its force.
