The Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine and CCN – Ballet de Lorraine welcome the Peeping Tom company with Chroniques, Gabriela Carrizo’s new creation co-created with Raphaëlle Latini. The audience is drawn into an unstable world somewhere between the ruins of vanished civilisations, apocalyptic visions, homespun science fiction and archaic dreamscapes. On stage, five men move through a mineral landscape in constant transformation, populated by ambiguous objects, improbable machines, rocks, smoke, shadows and apparitions. Nothing unfolds here as a linear story. The piece progresses through jolts, fragmented scenes and shifts in time and perception, as though time itself were slipping from beneath our feet. This is unmistakably the world of the Belgian collective: a visual universe of extraordinary evocative power, extreme physical intensity, choreographic precision bordering on acrobatics, and that singular ability to conjure strangeness without ever losing sight of humour. What remains is a succession of images that continue to haunt the spectators imagination long after the performance has ended.
