Hymns 2

Following a first edition in which children reinvented their own rules for the theatre, Hymns 2 is all about sport and collective creation. The Olympics are coming to Nancy, and children from across the city have been invited to invent the world’s next great sport. The Opera’s travelling youth choir joins in the adventure. Some children compete, others sit on the selection committee, and very quickly a series of questions emerges: what makes a sport “good”? How do we judge it? Why must there always be winners? And might it be possible to lose magnificently? Through auditions as serious as they are absurd, each child champions their dream discipline: football played on a giant bed, paper-ball throwing competitions aimed at parents, or mood-jumping on trampolines. Anthems are sung in every language — even in those yet to be invented. The trio formed by Franck Krawczyk, Chloé Kobuta and Joëlle Petrasek continue their shared exploration: opening up spaces in which children are free to invent their own rules of the game.
