The film concert restores all the vitality, tenderness and emotion of Charlie Chaplin’s silent-film masterpieceThe Kid (1921). The story follows an abandoned child whom the Tramp takes in almost despite himself, before the two invent a makeshift family built on ingenuity, affection, mishaps and small everyday miracles. Everything that defines Chaplin is already here: the art of the gag, the poetry of poverty and the grace of fragile souls holding firm against adversity. Under the baton of Karine Locatelli, the Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine Orchestra accompanies this poetry on screen with remarkable sensitivity. Performed live, the score reveals the film’s rhythmic precision, comic invention and the more fragile, tender quality without which The Kid would not quite be Chaplin. It also reminds us of Chaplin the composer, since he himself wrote a score for the film in 1971, today adapted for the concert stage.A wonderful opportunity for the whole family (ages 5 and up) to discover — or rediscover — this timeless classic, which moves effortlessly between laughter and emotion.
